The second CD by the Northern California-based retro swing band the Chazz Cats uses similar personnel as its debut except that the band had grown to become a septet with the addition of a second reed player, and the performances are more vocal-oriented and tighter. In addition, the repertoire does not rely as much on warhorses from the swing era, with a few obscurities such as "Thirteen Men," "Buona Sera," and "A Penny for Benny" mixing in with such Louis Jordan songs as "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie" and "Five Guys Named Moe." D'Lilah Monroe's vocals are a highlight, as are Pete McGee's passionate tenor solos. This is fun music if not overly original.
