Test of Time continues to reissue a number of excellent releases originally recorded for the Japanese label Eastwind with yet another great title by the Great Jazz Trio, an all-star group whose one constant was pianist Hank Jones. This 1980 session features bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Al Foster, while this is an interactive group rather than just piano and rhythm. Jones' intricate "Moreover" blends elements of blues and Latin rhythms in an invigorating opener, while his dreamy "Another World" and cooking bop vehicle "Phasar" also merit praise. Gomez contributed the lush waltz "Aurora's Voice" and delivers a powerful solo to boot, while Foster brought the softly swinging bossa nova "Pauletta." Jones and company also don't disappoint with their perky interpretations of jazz standards ("Just Squeeze Me" and "Scrapple from the Apple"), while the leader switches to Fender Rhodes for Stevie Wonder's mega-hit "My Cherie Amour," a piece that has since found favor with many jazz musicians.
