One of the best trombone players in the Latin-jazz community of the 1990s, Juan Pablo Torres provided a crucial role in recordings by Paquito D'Rivera, Charles Azvanour and Gilberto Santa Rosa. In addition, the Cuban recorded at least two dozen LPs of his own while sitting in with others...

Together Again (Juntos Otra Vez) is the best disc ever recorded by Torres as leader in his entire (abbreviated or unabbreviated) career, north or south of the Gulf Stream. Listerning to Torres' masterful arrangements, one realized that he is never reluctant to break the rules of the game, as illustrated by his frequent 3/4 expeditions and his melodically innovative trombone-guitar links, among other things. Torres felt free to transform (or add new twists to) the traditional Cuban meters, while combining a wide range of recources extracted from seemingly different popular and folkloric sources of the island's enormous musical reserve. He also felt free to recruit the best supporting characters available on both sides of the Sugarcane Curtain...
