HED BIG BAND was established in 1991 at HED Music Center - Yehud, Israel, by Yehuda Cohen, Center Director. The City of Yehud, the Center for the absorption of immigrant artists in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Absorption and the Jewish Agency have supported the project since then.
HED BIG BAND has performed in major Festivals and events in Israel, such as The Eilat Jazz Festival, the Ashdod Jazz Festival, The Hebrew Song Festival in Arad, the Film Festival in Haifa and abroad at Jewish community events and conventions in Oklahoma, USA and South America. Top musicians perform with the Big Band - Michel Legrand, Tony Martin, Peter Wertheimer, Von Freeman, Herb Pomeroy and Arnie Lawrence.
18 professional musicians have found a home at HED, where they play jazz and pop music. The BIG BAND is a model of immigrant absorption and cooperation between immigrant and Israeli musicians.
HED BIG BAND has a rich repertoire and can be booked for performances at musical productions, ceremonies, conventions, dinner dances, community events, accompanying soloists, educational concerts for children and jazz festivals.
Musical Director Yehuda Cohen studied Jazz writing, arranging and film scoring at Berklee college of music, and symphonic conducting at the Boston conservatory. He has an MA degree in symphonic and operatic conducting from Lowell University.
