After releasing 4 albums in the Roots Rock and Blues genres, Don Ray reaches back to his Country roots to release his first Americana Country album. Heartfelt and loyal, Band of Gypsies is 3 chords and the truth. Actually it's 4 or 5 chords at times but still 100% the truth. Band of Gypsies pays a lot of respect to Don's late steel guitar playing father and features steel guitarist Tony Paoletta all over this album. Don and Tony go back to the 80s where they were a popular part of the Austin, TX Country music scene. Also performing on this album is Musicians Hall Of Fame guitarist, Will McFarlane. This is the second album Will has played on with Don, the first being the Don Ray Band album Full Throttle. Don is also joined by the soulful and hugely respected former lead singer of Little Feat, Shaun Murphy. This is the 2nd duet for the pair. To complete the magic, Band of Gypsies was recorded in the Muscle Shoals area by Grammy award winning engineer, Jimmy Nutt at his NuttHouse studio.
