Mal Waldron's mellow and sentimental side is tapped on this session recently issued by Soul Note. It's spotlighted on the unaccompanied second take of the title track, where Waldron's opening and major solo are played with a somber, introspective flair, as he slowly constructs his statement. There are elegant left-hand movements and answering right-hand rhythms, and his interpretation is ultimately satisfying and memorable. A less demonstrative, but still quite enjoyable, Mal Waldron date.
