High Fashion were the creation of Jacques Fred Petrus, in the decade he not only masterminded this group, but Change and B.B&Q before being fatally shot. High Fashion was centred originally around the voices of Erick McClinton, Alyson Williams and Meli'sa Morgan, the latter two enjoying solo careers. Jacques Fred Petrus met a talented musician Mauro Malavasi and in 1978 they started a production company. Combining European and American influences and expanding their circle of Italian and US musicians they came to prominence in 1980 with The Glow of Love for Change. In New York Jacques Fred Petrus employed a young musician/producer Kashif who contributed songs on High Fashion s debut album Feelin' Lucky , and musicians on both these albums also played with Change and B.B.&Q. Many are top session players from the period, Change being where Luther Vandross sang before becoming a solo artist. On Make Up Your Mind Jacques Fred Petrus replaced Meli sa Morgan with Marcella Allen who had previously sung with Aquarian Dream and Lonnie Liston Smith. Feelin Lucky lately is the best remembered song by the group and was a successful dance record that is still played today, but the investment in musicians and production from the period both albums were recorded means there is quality beneath the surface to be enjoyed for years to come.
