Florian de Gelmini learned to play the piano at the age of five from Johanna Gerhardt, wife of the Berlin Philharmonic and violinist Axel Gerhardt.

He studied music with the pianist Wolfgang Saschowa, who died in 2010, and took several master classes, e.g. in the Liliental monastery in Austria. During this time he received a scholarship from the Pradé Foundation for the musically gifted in Berlin, and from 1981 to 1987 he was a multiple winner of Jugend musiziert and the Steinway piano competition.

He works as a freelance composer of film, TV and commercial music.

His first international success came in 2010 with the music for the documentary "The Girl In The Glass Casket" about Rosalia Lombardo, produced by the American National Geographic Channel.

In September 2012 Florian de Gelmini won the UFA Film Production's "Night over Berlin" film music tender for the ARD directed by Friedemann Fromm. The film was broadcast on February 28, 2013 on the 80th anniversary of the Reichstag fire.

The symphonic score was recorded from November 27th to 29th in the Smecky Studios in Prague by the seventy-one-member "City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra". The soundtrack for the film, published by Colosseum Records, was voted Soundtrack of the Month (April) by Bavarian Radio.

In September 2013 it became known that Florian de Gelmini was writing the music for the UFA fiction production "The Resignation" over the last 68 days of office of the former Federal President Christian Wulff. The director of the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy, Thomas Schadt, will direct the film. The client is SAT.1. The film was broadcast on SAT.1 on February 25, 2014.

The soundtrack for the film was released on February 21, 2014 and is distributed by Colosseum Music Entertainment.

In 2003 he founded the Berlin acid and nu jazz band "Funkatized" with drummer Norm Bolling, with whom he has been producing music since the early 90s. Shades "was released in August 2015.
