Venezuelan Guitarist and Composer Juan Ernesto Velásquez creates dynamic and warm melodic textures with a colorful spectrum of musical nuances. His music has roots in Latin America yet contains a blend of Spanish and Gipsy guitars, Popular Music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Jazz, and World Music influences, resulting in innovative instrumental compositions that evoke mellow and intimate moods.
His first album, “Música para ver las Nubes/Music to look at the Clouds,” is an autobiographical journey of ideas and musical experiences to escape from the daily routine. It’s the sum of his imagination inspired by the eclectic contrast between urban chaos and the tropical lush of his native Caracas — soundscapes that have been by his side for a long time. Its harmonies, melodies, and improvisations result from an ensemble of acoustic, electro-acoustic, electric, and Selmer-Maccaferri guitars, jew’s harp, oud, and sounds as dissimilar as Bells, Tibetan Singing Bowls, and ambient sounds recorded in the streets. “Música para Ver las Nubes” are experimental sound-pictures to contemplate and embrace cloud’s movements through mountains, seas, cities, and buildings. A humble invitation to take a pause and do something as simple as look at the clouds.
