Listening to ‘Namatoulee’ offers a wonderful uniquely colorful sonic experience. An absolute joy to experience, it’s full of intriguing soundscapes and inspirational personal expression: outstanding original musical stories that transcend words and traditional frameworks, all seemingly informed by an inspired and deeply thoughtful personal psychology.
I met Francesca Naibo while conducting an improvisation workshop in Venice in 2019. The first time that we played together (and all subsequent times) resulted in a memorable and particularly satisfying musical experience. Listening to her solo expression on this record is a revelation, as well.
Francesca sounds like no one else: a dynamic and talented improviser/composer bringing important and original sounds to the world of music. She has a masterful command with her instrument and the sounds and broad range of timbre possibilities it offers. There is a passion for music/sound/sculpture and dynamic interaction, originating from an innovator who seemingly believes in herself and her individual process for creativity.
But also, this is a musical expression that transcends the ‘personality’ of the performer, eloquently taking us into the abstract world of something/somewhere else; an important place where communication transcends beyond what we think we know or want to say.
