Long after she left the label, Candid Records released this sampler of 16 songs from Stacey Kent's albums on the label; from her 1997 debut, Close Your Eyes, to her 2003 success; The Boy Next Door. It's a pleasant collection featuring an assortment of standards from I've Got A Crush On You by the Gershwin Brothers to Cole Porter's Too Darn Hot to Carole King's You've Got A Friend that Stacey breathes new life into with her sweet inimitable voice that's always sensitive to the lyrics at hand. This compilation however, makes grave errors by focusing mainly on Stacey's skills as a balladeer (it only features 5 up-tempo numbers) & it completely omits any selections from Stacey's wonderful 2002 tribute to Richard Rodgers. Thus, this album is only recommended for people looking for pleasant background music or for audiophile listeners. Although this album serves as a reasonable introduction into the artistry of Stacey Kent; her 2001 salute to Fred Astaire, the aforementioned Rodgers song book along with 2003's The Boy Next Door & 2007's Breakfast On The Morning Tram would be even better places to get acquainted with one of jazz's latter-day princesses.
