GRAMMY-awarded producer, keyboardist and songwriter Michael Broening is better known in the smooth jazz genre to those who look at the credits of other musicians. Thus, his name is linked to musicians such as Lin Rountree, Tim Bowman, Randy Scott, Marion Meadows, Cindy Bradley, Michael Lington, Jaared, Brian Simpson and many more.

What could be more obvious than to step out of the shadows and into the limelight with his own solo album. The album is appropriately titled Never Too Late comparable to Michael O'Neill, who successfully debuted with this title. The album is released on Trippin' and Rhythm, the label that features many of the artists Michael has been instrumental in creating.

It is also no secret that, as can be seen from the credits, many have made their contribution, on whose albums Michael has worked beneficially. Drawing on his wealth of experience, Michael wrote, produced, engineered and mixed all the songs himself. The album opens with the positive-spirited Shine A Light. Spiritual input is provided by Nicholas Cole on the B3 organ. Thano Sahnas, himself an acclaimed producer, gives responsive moments on acoustic and electric guitar. All around, a successful piece that provides a fitting introduction.

On Summer In Blue, Roberto Restuccia, a rising star in the smooth jazz sky provides guitar flavor. But it's Michael who works true magic on the keys. Let It Breathe makes the sun rise in our hearts. Once again take a deep breath and follow these enchanting sounds.

Talk To Me experiences its charm not only from the piano carried melody but Marion Meadows saxophone aura. The dramatic-sounding title Fire In The Sky corresponds to the arc of tension that Michael orchestrates on the piano. Althena Rene draws more lines to this arc with her ultra-fine flute aesthetic.

Java, the capital of Indonesia is the center of the jazz world every year when the festival takes place. Lava Java is a punning tribute with a brilliant Lin Rountree on trumpet. When You Smile reveals Michael tender side and at the same time is an ode to his charming always smiling wife.

The Way She Moves is a tonal attempt by Michael to interpret his wife's incredibly alluring movements. Randy Scott on saxophone punctuates Michael's pearly playing. Everything leads up to his promise, Never Letting Go. The finale is Oceanside Drive with flattering music that recreates the drive along the seashore.

Michael Broening's debut album Never Too Late meets the expectations of smooth jazz fans in every way. From the composition, the perfection in the musical realization and the selection of the musicians involved, everything fits together seamlessly.
