New Landscapes was conceived in 2015 from the need to explore the expressive potential of a chamber ensemble in which instruments and musicians from different backgrounds coexist. Baroque music, ethnic and contemporary, jazz improvisation, as well as original compositions by the trio become possible variations of a single way of conceiving music: the search for a balanced and evocative sound and gesture.

The three musicians from Veneto, who have in common openness and musical curiosity, come from different experiences. They had already played together with Silvia Rinaldi, Venetian violinist with several important professional experiences, and Luca Chiavinato, classical guitarist who then moved on to the baroque lute and oud, specializing in early music. But if their meeting appears already interesting (some tracks of the album are played in duo, as Lachrimae, by the English John Dowland, and the odd Gnossienne n. 1, by Erik Satie), the real novelty of the project is represented by the addition of Francesco Ganassin’s bass clarinet, a versatile musician at ease both with contemporary language and with that of jazz; six of his compositions have entered the repertoire of the trio. Noteworthy are the slow and suggestive Barracuda, but also Rumors, that gives the title track, and Semi, both more lively and rich in counterpoints.

Always busy creating new soundscapes, the trio does not seek contamination end in itself, but the naturalness of playing together, looking for the common traits of a truly universal language. Everything seemed to work perfectly that night in Mestre: primarily the music and the sound, but an important part was played also by the public, unusually attentive and warm. Rarely does a debut album come from a live recording; it was a sincere and courageous choice, however consistent with an artistic journey that already gives a glimpse of interesting new developments.
