With A Time For Love, Stacey Kent delivers what may be her most refined and emotionally concentrated work to date. Recorded in the intimate surroundings of Tree House Studio in Virginia during the summer of 2025, the album strips the music down to its essential core: voice, piano and reeds. The result is a collection of extraordinary delicacy, where silence carries as much weight as sound. From the opening bars of Lucky To Be Me — the Bernstein/Comden/Green classic from the 1944 musical On the Town — to the closing Italian reverie of E la Chiamono Estate, Kent navigates a carefully chosen repertoire with the poise and intelligence that have made her one of the most distinctive jazz vocalists of her generation.

The programme is a testament to Kent's lifelong love of song in all its forms. Serge Gainsbourg's La Javanaise is delivered with effortless Gallic precision, while Johnny Mandel and Paul Francis Webster's The Shadow of Your Smile glows with warmth. The Brazilian choro standard Carinhoso and the Burt Bacharach/Hal David gem Trains and Boats and Planes further illustrate the breadth of her musical world. Throughout, pianist Art Hirahara and multi-instrumentalist Jim Tomlinson — Kent's husband, long-time collaborator and the album's producer — provide an accompaniment of rare sensitivity. Tomlinson, who also handled recording and mixing duties, brings a warm, audiophile-grade sonic character to every track, making A Time For Love as rewarding to listen to as it is to experience.
