Lars Klevstrand belongs to the politically conscious singers who broke through in the latter half of the 1960s, and he has since been a stylish, central figure in the Norwegian music scene, also as a guitarist and lyricist. He quickly became a well-established performing artist, not least with På stengrunn (1973), where he had also set some of Rudolf Nilsen's poems to music. Klevstrand has done most things in music, but singing with jazz musicians was a regular occurrence. On Riv ned gjerdene! from 1977, he brought the Guttorm Guttormsen Quartet with him and the album became an instant classic.
